Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
A much rarer variation to the 1905 black and white real photo Ottawa Senators postcards normally encountered, this example feature’s a fuller image, with no border space left for text. A trio of Hall of Famers are standing, with Harry Westwick, Billy Gilmour and one-eyed great Frank McGee, while team captain Harvey Pulford and fellow HOFer Alf Smith are seated in the middle. Featuring Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy and with “Ottawa Hockey Club - World’s Champions - Holders of Stanley Cup” beneath the photo, text over the reverse mentions the club and names the players, with a 1 cent stamp affixed and 1907 postmarks over both the front and reverse.
While condition isn’t ideal, the rarity of this example supersedes any concerns, with three of the four corners torn away from former pinhole mounting, along with spotting throughout the image. There are also numerous creases and wrinkles, with heavy toning over the reverse. This item is relisted from our Winter 2019 auction as Edward Skelton from CA (USA) failed to honor his bid.
