Regarded as one of the biggest upsets in the history of professional football, Super Bowl XLII featured the unstoppable New England Patriots – the only team to go undefeated since the 1972 Miami Dolphins – heavily favoured over a talented but unconvincing New York Giants squad led by soon-to-be MVP Eli Manning. Over 70,000 crammed the University of Phoenix Stadium to witness the Giants slip past Tom Brady and the Patriots 17-14 after a late, 12-play, 83-yard drive that sealed the victory. This gorgeous pendant celebrates one of the most exciting Super Bowl games ever played. Constructed of 14K white gold with an approx weight of 30 grams, the 1” square pendant is an accurate copy of the top of the rings issued to players, with a Giants logo placed beneath a trio of Vince Lombardi trophies, with each set with large diamonds. The precious stones litter the tableau, with rows added over the left and right side of the descending tier, with “World” above and “Champions” below. The reverse has the date of “2/3/08” engraved along with “HT”, with “Tiffany & Co 585” stamped beneath.
While we are unsure who this specific pendant once belonged to, we should note that it has been a common practice with championship jewelry to offer items such as this pendant to players for possibly a spouse. Exhibiting just a few minor surface scratches over the reverse, the pendant’s loop has heavier wear, with the material somewhat worn and "ground-down". This does absolutely nothing to the display value of the pendant itself. An 18” chain marked “Tiffany & Co” supports the pendant, with the original 3” x 4” Tiffany & Co box included.
