Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Founded as the Kansas City Scouts in 1974, the Scouts moved to Denver in 1976 and became the Colorado Rockies. In 1982, the team relocated again, this time to East Rutherford, New Jersey, to become the New Jersey Devils. In forty years of competing in the NHL, the Devils have won 9 Division championships, 5 Conference championships and a trio of Stanley Cups. This Devils jersey hails from the inaugural season in 1982-83, and was recycled for Greg Adams use in the mid-1980s. Unknown if worn by Adams in the preseason or regular-season, Aaron Broten wore #24 in 1982-83, but we can't see any clear evidence of a former nameplate, so it is unknown if Broten did wear this jersey in 1982-83. Gerry Cosby and SK Sandow tagging is affixed to the collar of the vintage mesh, and it measures-out to a size 48. Styled with a layered tackle twill team crest, "24" is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with a tie-style fight strap intact and rubberized Cosby and Sandow logos to the reverse hem. The jersey shows light use, with a few marks visible, a small hole to the right sleeve and some minor age discolouration/toning to the material. Inaugural season jerseys rarely surface for any team.
