Absolutely gorgeous Montreal Expos 1969 inaugural season No. 17 game-issued full uniform is a wonder to behold! This scarce and magnificent treasure from the personal collection of Canadian Senator Normand Grimard has the original “Set 1 1969” flag tag on both the jersey, which has size 44 Rawlings tagging, and the pants, which display size 34 Rawlings tagging. The jersey does not have the Major League Baseball 100th Anniversary patch. Expos uniforms in the 1969 spring training team photo did not have the patch, which was added to the left sleeve for opening day and worn throughout Montreal’s first season. Donn Clendenon (38 games) and Dick Radatz (22 games) each wore No. 17 for the Expos in 1969.
Clendenon was the first Expos player to wear No. 17 during the 1969 season. Selected by Montreal in the expansion draft, he was traded to the Houston Astros on January 22 but refused to report. Clendenon joined the Expos on April 19 and hit .240 with four homers and 14 RBIs before he was traded to the New York Mets on June 15. Clendenon went on to be named World Series MVP for the Miracle Mets. Radatz also wore No. 17 for the Expos in 1969 after his contract was purchased from Detroit, also on June 15.
