Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Just five days after closing the Montreal Forum, the Canadiens entered their new home and christened the Molson Centre with a game against the New York Rangers. It did not take long for the first goal to be scored as Montreal’s Vincent Damphousse beat Glenn Healy before going on to a 4-2 win. The immediate aftermath of the goal was captured perfectly in the photo, which has been matted. The frame exhibits scuffing and the plexiglass does have some scratches and marks, but this is understandable since it was on display in hockey’s revered temple. There are also pieces of wood attached to the back that were used for mounting along with some indents on the cardboard backing, but it should not detract from enjoying the piece. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens, this framed display was likely displayed at the Molson Centre/Bell Centre. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
