Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Around since before the National Hockey League was even a twinkle in the eyes of hockey management and business men of the era, the Montreal Canadiens set up shop in 1909 and have been wowing fans ever since, hoisting Lord Stanley's coveted Cup more than any team in the history of the game, an astonishing twenty-four (24) times. Laying claim to having some of the best players to ever grace the ice in a professional hockey game don their colours and playing in iconic hallowed facilities during their existence, offered here is this Montreal Canadiens matted display that features a multi-signed photo of the famed Montreal Forum as well as a multi-signed 1893-1993 Stanley Cup Centennial Canada Post "Day of Issue" postal cover. Starting with the photo of the Form, a gorgeous black-and-white exterior shot of the building's facade that sits below an identifier plaque that reads "Montreal Forum 1924-1996", the image has been signed by the likes of Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau, Butch Bouchard, Dollard St. Laurent, Phil Goyette, Guy Lafleur, Gump Worsley, John McCormick, Elmer Lach, John Ferguson, Gerry McNeil, Ken Dryden, Steve Shutt, Frank Mahovlich, Ken Reardon, Sam Pollock and one other that can't be identified. All having signed the image with blue marker ink autographs, all the signatures listed remain legible with some showing various degrees of fading from age. For the Day of Issue postal cover, issued for the centennial celebration of the Stanley Cup and postmarked twice "93-04-16" with a commemorative stamp, an image of the Stanley Cup bowl appears over the upper left corner while the likes of Maurice Richard, Gerry McNeil, Sam Pollock, Gump Worsley, Jacques Demers, Bernie Geoffrion, Dickie Moore, Ken Dryden, Steve Shutt, Jean Beliveau, Butch Bouchard, Yvan Cournoyer and Guy Lapointe have signed over the piece, all of which has been done in blue marker ink with all the signatures vivid and legible with just some light fading from age that is heaviest on the McNeil example. Measuring out to full dimensions of 14" x 21 1/2" and showing light wear to the corners and edges, a Montreal Canadiens logo pin at the bottom of the display and everything is displayed under red, white and blue mattes to match the team's colours. Ready for framing, the piece will come accompanied by a JSA Auction LOA.
