Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
The final season for the one and only Rocket, Maurice Richard would retire after the 1959-60 NHL season as a Stanley Cup champion. The Habs would finish first in the NHL that season, and defeat the perennial rival Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup final for the franchise's fifth consecutive championship. This stick has been team-signed by the 1959-60 Stanley Cup champion Canadiens (it is possible that the stick originates from 1958-59, but with Bill Hicke only playing a single playoff game for the Habs that season, the stick is most likely 1959-60). An SSW Extra Special Professional model, there is tape to the blade and cracks with unattributed game wear shown including marks. 17 have signed one side of the shaft including Plante, the Rocket, Beliveau, Harvey, H. Richard, Provost (2), Pronovost, Hicke, Moore, McDonald, Turner, Bonin, Johnson, Marshall, Talbot, Goyette and Toe Blake (coach). The majority of the signatures display beautifully, and remains completely dark.
