Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Featuring a rookie Bill Durnan capturing the Vezina Trophy for his 38 wins in 50 games while posting a 2.18 average, the Montreal Canadiens finished well ahead of the pack in 1943-44, and after defeating Chicago in four-straight games, hoisted their fifth Stanley Cup. We have a framed display that features a sheet team-signed by the 1943-44 Montreal Canadiens. At 7 ½” x 9 ½” (exposed), the beige sheet has been placed over the right, while a modern photo of the 1943-44 squad resides over the left. 17 have signed in a single row in matching black fountain pen ink, including deceased HOFers Rocket Richard (second season), Bill Durnan (rookie), Butch Bouchard, Elmer Lach, Toe Blake, Buddy O’Connor and coach Dick Irvin. The signatures remain bold and present beautifully, with the display framed to full dimensions of approx 12 ½” x 21”.
The additional signers include Phil Watson, Ray Getliffe, Erwin "Murph" Chamberlain, Glen Harmon, Gerald Heffernan, Fern Majeau, Bob Fillion, Leo Lamoureux, Mike McMahon and Gerry McNeil (McNeil was 17 at the time and served as a practice goaltender with the Canadiens). There is a bit of light staining to the sheet on the right side, with not affecting the signatures, with a horizontal fold line at center. There is also light wear to the frame.
