Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
The cream of the crop in the National Hockey League during the 1949-50 regular season, the Detroit Red Wings finished the seventy (70) game campaign with a standings topping record of 37-19-14 and would defeat both the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers during the playoffs to clinch the fourth (4th) Stanley Cup championship in MoTown's franchise history. Suiting up in sixty-five (65) regular season contests as well as ten (10) playoff games, offered here is this Stanley Cup championship trophy that was presented to Max McNab in recognition of his contributions during that championship season. Measuring 5 1/2" in height and sporting a diameter of 8 1/2", the keepsake resembles the bowl found atop the Stanley Cup and is engraved on one side with "National Hockey League Stanley Cup Winners - Season 1949-50" while "Detroit Hockey Club Inc." and "Maxwell McNab" are found on the other. Stamped on the underside of the base with "Sheffield Reproduction" for the pattern/model as well as "S.P. Copper", meaning "silver plated over copper", the piece is beautifully preserved despite missing its original flower pot grill. Retaining its stunning silver finish over the entirety of the outside as well as on the inside of the bowl, the piece remains in fabulous condition with light scratching throughout the outside and light tarnishing on the inside of the base plus a few small dings on the interior of the bowl that do not appear on the exterior nor detract from its overall eye appeal.
