Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
Fascinating in its simplicity, this unique piece of Montreal Canadiens history is a signed agreement between Maurice Richard and legendary GM Frank Selke to renew the Rocket’s contract for the 1955-56 season on the same terms as the previous NHL season. Richard signed in bold ballpoint beneath Selke’s signature, whose handwritten note on the “October 21 Wednesday” page removed from a 1955 agenda reads: “Maurice Richard, Sept 15 - 1955, All terms same as on 1954-55 contract”. Not the official NHL standard player’s contract but a gentleman’s agreement for the hockey icon’s terms for his 1955-56 season, this 5x7 page originally from Maurice Richard’s personal collection comes with a signed LOA from his family.
Signed by two Montreal Canadiens legends, both members of the Hockey Hall of Fame, this remarkable original document has fold creases that do not diminish its display.
