Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Habs icon Maurice "Rocket" Richard figures prominently in the four original pieces of correspondence included here featuring two original signatures of legendary Canadiens GM Frank Selke and another of former team owner David Molson with Selke stamped signature also appearing twice on a 1948 training camp 2-page document. Richard's original signature appears four times on two checks, including an August 1987 check from his General Fishing Lines Ltd. bank account made out to himself that features his signature twice on the face, and once on the reverse. Also included is his January 1996 signed check from Maurice Richard Inc. made out to the Club de Hockey Canadien Inc. and stamped for deposit by the team on the reverse.
Deceased HOFer Frank Selke has signed his November 1959 detailed two-page letter to NHL president Clarence Campbell defending both Richard and Jean-Guy Talbot for misconduct penalties they received. Selke has also signed his August 1973 handwritten personal letter to the Rocket. Great reading! Molson has signed his French language October 1966 letter that accompanied a photo he mailed to Richard. A vintage photo of the Rocket celebrating his 600th goal (regular season and playoffs) and Richard's Dow Brewery representative's card round out this lot, along with a 14" x 11" modern print of the famous Richard-Sugar Jim Henry 1952 playoff handshake photo.
