Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
A very unique Mario Lemieux jersey is included in this lot of three items autographed by the Pittsburgh Penguins legend. Mario le Magnifique has signed the right side of the back of a white #66 Wales Conference captain's jersey with a 1993 All-Star Game patch sewn onto the right shoulder and a "Stanley Cup 1893-1993" patch on the right breast. Lemieux was battling Hodgkin's lymphoma at the time and unable to take part in the showcase game in front of his hometown crowd at the Montreal Forum, though he did make a spectacular return later in the season and went on to win the scoring crown with 69 goals and 161 points despite being limited to 60 regular season games. He has signed in the middle of the left "6", with a WG Authentic hologram sticker on the bottom, on the red, white and grey triple twill #66 sewn on the back of his North American team jersey from the 2001 All-Star Game that features a modern Penguins logo on the right shoulder, a Canadian flag patch on the left shoulder, an Avalanche 2001 All-Star patch on the right breast, and a red, white and grey triple twill captain's "C" on the left breast. Lemieux has also signed boldly in black marker the blade of one of his black, yellow and white Koho Revolution sticks from the 1990s.
