Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Splitting seasons between the NOJHL’s Soo Thunderbirds and the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires in the mid-to-late-2010s, netminder Mario Culina also backstopped the Sudbury Wolves and Kitchener Rangers before attending Brock University, in 2019-20. This mask was worn by the Sault Ste. Marie native with the Kitchener Rangers in 2017-18, specifically in the March 2, 2018 loss to Oshawa, played in front of over 7,000 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. A Bauer model with intact cage, strapping and interior padding along with a wonderfully executed paint scheme, Rangers shield crests appear over each side, with a Sun Life Financial “Kids in Gear” sponsorship logo over the back plate, beneath Culina’s “32”. The artist has initialed each side with “DA”. Exhibiting just light overall wear, the mask remains in gorgeous condition. A COA from the Rangers will accompany, along with a Bauer storage/carry bag with a “Culina” name card inserted.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, two photos are included (one shows Culina wearing a similar but different mask), with one matched to the specific placement of numerous items including the strapping, Rangers shield logo, the artist's signature and more. The photo is also matched to the small areas of missing paint on the “32” over the back plate.
