Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The only player able to compete with a youthful Wayne Gretzky, Marcel Dionne tied The Great One with 137 points in 1979-80, scoring two more goals than Wayne, and finished second to Gretzky in 1980-81, again scoring more goals. From the genesis of his noteworthy HOF career, we have a stick used by Dionne during his second NHL season, team-signed by the 1972-73 Detroit Red Wings. A CCM Custom Pro model with “Dionne” stamped to the upper shaft, the original black tape is in place over the blade, with now-darkened white tape over the handle/knob. Moderate game-use is exhibited on the vintage lumber, with marks and wear to both the shaft and blade. Dionne has added a recent black marker signature to the heel along with "HOF 92", with approx 19 signing the front side shaft in matching red ink, including Gary Bergman, Red Berenson, Denis DeJordy, Alex Delvecchio, Guy Charron, Garnet "Ace" Bailey, Mickey Redmond, Ken Murray, Bill Collins, Brian Lavender, Tim Ecclestone, Nick Libett, Guy Charron, Henry Boucha, Larry Johnston, Al Karlander and a few others. The stick is dated to the 1972-73 season due to players signing that were in their first season with Detroit including Denis DeJordy, along with the inclusion of Al Karlander, who played his final season with the Red Wings in 1972-73. Dionne would net 90 points during his sophomore campaign in 1972-73 including 40 goals.
