Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005

Spectacular CCM air-knit uniform worn by franchise man Mark Messier during his final days as an Oiler. From the amount of game wear, it certainly appears Mark wore this one towards the end of the regular season and throughout the playoffs. This shirt is hammered! We count at least a dozen large material-backed team repairs on the sleeves, but as most are jumbled together, there may be more by your count. Loads of stick marks and slashes can be found on the sleeves and body with areas of heavy piling inside. "Messier" crosses a stunted name plate above his famous number "11" on the back and the double-ones show up on each sleeve as well. Mark was a solid team leader on and off the ice and this shirt proudly displays his captain's "C" high up on the left breast. Rick Elaschuk tells us he saved this sweater after the final game of the 1990-91 post-season as the Oilers closed out their year at the Coliseum Edmonton against the Minnesota Northstars over a five-game series to determine the Campbell Conference Championship. The doors to Hockey's Hall of Fame will soon swing wide open for the member of the 500-goal club with six Stanley Cup wins under his belt. From the personal collection of Rick "The Stick" Elaschuk with his signed letter of provenance.
