The Johnny Bucyk Auction - May 2005

Although the right winger appeared in just one contest for the Boston Bruins in the 1971-72 season, the Tasmanian Devil would go on to skate for the Bruins in each of the next thirteen seasons, earning the respect and applause of Bostonians that was rivaled only by a teammate of his who wore number 4. Perhaps the greatest tributes to Terry O'Reilly have been paid in words. Don Cherry once quipped, "Terry typifies our team. He's tough, really tough, and that's the way I like ‘em. I know a coach isn't supposed to like one player more than another, but I can't help it in regard to Terry O'Reilly." Offered here is the home uniform worn by Terry throughout 1975-76 and for a number of match-ups early on in the following season. The tackle twill spoked-B sits on the chest of this cream white dureen jersey with "24" on the back and again on each sleeve. Neck tagging shows this one was made by Wilson in size 46. Embroidered bears sit up on each shoulder as the team removed the circular bicentennial patches early in 1976-77. This white set was worn during the 1975-76 regular season, for three games of the post-season that year and then reused for the pre-season of 1976-77 with the bicentennial patches intact and for two more games of the regular season with the bears head crests. With the shirt turned inside out, you can make out the ghostly outline of the former patch and some of the old threads remain. This jersey is hammered! No less than 30 bullet-style team repairs can be found on the front, back and sleeves. This, in addition to a few good stick slashes, board burns and some of that famous red Boston Garden board paint. Terry has signed the front of the shirt, below the crest, "Best Wishes, Terry O'Reilly". The signature is not very dark and would probably not be difficult to remove if that was your choice. Comes with a letter of authenticity and a detailed chronology of the usage and patch changes. A well-worn, well-documented example destined to become part of a premium collection. *startred* After examining very closely the O'Reilly jersey, we believe the offered jersey could be the one O'Reilly is actually wearing on the photo shown above, the black mark on the left side of the crest, altough it as disapeared most likely during the team washings, you can still notice a little pilling on the jersey at the exact same spot wich is probably from the actual impact from when the mark was produced. There are aslo 2 or 3 other details that make us belive this could be a picture of O'Reilly wearing the actual uniform we are offering. *endred*
