It's always a treat to come across items featuring stars long before they made it to the big-time and this is definitely a big-time find! This fantastic cabinet photo pictures the St. Mary's hockey team, Juvenile champions of Kingston, Ontario in 1910. Sitting at the far right of the front row is a 14-year old Bill Cook who would go on to make his mark as arguably the finest right winger in pro hockey of his era. Cook amazingly though didn't make his NHL debut until he was 30 due to his serving Canada in the First World War. When the New York Rangers were formed in 1926, he was one of the first players to sign, was named the team's first captain and scored its first goal. Cook led the NHL with 33 goals that first season and soon formed the potent Bread Line with brother Bun and Frank Boucher. His performance with the Rangers during his 11-year career earned him a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1952. The actual photo here measures (8" x 6") with a "Boyes" photographer's stamp on the cardboard border. The printing of the names below the photo was done twice side by side making it somewhat difficult to make out the names but "W. Cook, Rover" cannot be mistaken. The photo is in excellent condition with minor moisture damage along the left edge of the backing. An amazing pre-NHL photo featuring a future Ranger legend.
