The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Sensational piece for team photo and/or postcard collectors, this beauty pictures the 1937-38 New York Americans. The real photo postcard includes scoring leader Sweeney Schriner, Nels Stewart, Hooley Smith and a couple of well-known Hall-of-Famers who completed their playing careers in '37-38 with the Americans; Ching Johnson and Hap Day. Coached by Red Dutton, New York was eliminated in the semi-finals by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Black Hawks. The back of the card includes the names of the players while the front features the autograph of goaltender Earl Robertson who penned "to my friend Dick from Earl "Robbie" Robertson". In excellent-plus condition with a touch of chipping along the right edge, this crystal clear shot is a fabulous piece of New York hockey history.
