The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
Obtained directly from Hall of Fame goaltender Johnny Bower, this Maple Leafs practice jersey bearing Bower's number "1" is the last that Bower wore in practice with the Leafs. Bower relates the story of how he stuffed it in a bag and "smuggled" it out of Maple Leaf Gardens! The 50% cotton and 50% polyester knit sweater has a Maska company tag in the neck with a crumpled washing instructions tag indicating size XL. White tackle twill number "1"s are sewn on the front. sleeves and back. The man who played an astonishing 24 professional seasons almost entirely without a face mask has autographed the front "1" in blue sharpie and has added his number "1". After inspiring teammates 10 and 20 years younger than him while with Toronto, Bower was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1976. The jersey shows nice use but is free of any holes and in excellent condition with some sweat staining on the "1" on the back. Johnny Bower's signed LOA will accompany this terrific, unique jersey.
