This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
What a way to start an NHL career! After spending 2 1/2 seasons with Toronto's farm team in Rochester, 24-year old Jim Pappin got his chance with the Maple Leafs in 1963-64, appearing in 50 games and scoring 11 goals. The big right winger suited up for 11 playoff games and had the rookie thrill of having his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as the Leafs claimed their 3rd straight title. Toronto finished 3rd in the standings but upset 1st place Montreal in the semi-finals, holding off the Canadiens' powerful offence to just one goal in game 7 while scoring 3 of their own to advance to the finals against Detroit. The finals were tightly fought with 5 of the first 6 games being decided by one goal. Game 6 was the one where Leaf defenceman Bobby Baun scored the overtime winner while playing on a broken leg. Toronto clinched the Cup as Andy Bathgate, who the Leafs acquired in a late season blockbuster trade, scored the winner and Johnny Bower shut out Detroit 4-0. Leafs players and management later received miniature Stanley Cups for their ultimate victory. The 12 1/2" high silver plated trophy includes the engraved names of the Leafs brass; Smythe, Ballard, Bassett, Imlach and Clancy, as well as future Hall-of-Famers Armstrong, Bathgate, Bower, Horton, Kelly, Keon, Mahovlich, Pulford, Stanley and the supporting cast. The cherished trophy has been preserved in outstanding excellent condition with two small scrapes on the front. Toronto Maple Leafs mini Cups are very seldom offered. Serious Leafs and award collectors are now presented with a tremendous opportunity. Jim Pappin will sign a letter of authenticity that will accompany this stirring piece of hockey history.
