The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
As an important assistant to Alan Eagleson, Marvin Goldblatt contributed admirably in getting the inaugural Canada Cup tournament off the ground in 1976. Interest in international hockey was growing following the Canada-Russia series in '72 and '74 and the gathering of the world's top 6 hockey countries made for a memorable competition. Led by veterans Bobby Hull and Bobby Orr who turned in incredible performances, and backstopped by Rogie Vachon, Team Canada claimed top tournament honors. Like the players, team executive Goldblatt received a championship trophy in the form of a half maple leaf. A metal plate at the base of the 11 1/2" high trophy is engraved "Marvin Goldblatt – Coupe Canada Cup". Contrary to most of these trophies that we've handled over the years, this one is not cracked or bulging, but in astonishing "can't-expect-nicer" condition. Marvin Goldblatt will sign a LOA that will be included with this exceptional trophy.
