Exceptional white dureen Chicago Black Hawks jersey was worn by the incomparable Bobby Hull just before he switched from number 16 to number 7 during the '61-62 season, one which saw the blond bombshell reach the magic 50-goal mark for the first time and capture his second of three NHL scoring titles. The sweater was originally sold as Bobby's 1961 playoff game worn jersey but extensive research by our consignor proves otherwise and pinpoints the following season. Evidence is highlighted by the embroidered Indian head Hawks logo. Following the '61-62 season, Chicago jerseys featured chain-stitched crests. The small notch at the base of the green feather is another indicator. Best of all, our consignor owns a Stan Mikita game worn jersey that has been photo matched to the '61-62 season and the Mikita jersey and this one unmistakenly are from the same set. Further research by our consignor at the Hockey Hall of Fame and in programs from later in the season discounts any notion of another player wearing #16 after Bobby changed to #7. Hull switched to #7 at the start of December with this stirring jersey exhibiting the expected use for the first seven weeks of road games. An Olympic tag is in the neck along with a size 48 fly tag. Embroidered tomahawk patches are sewn on the shoulders while black tackle twill "16"s are sewn on the sleeves and on the back. There are black stick/slash marks on the front, notably a 4-inch long vertical one in front of the Indian's mouth and a 3-inch one above the upper black stripe. General filth and sweat stains are along the front hem. Visible blood stains at the left breast and left shoulder area are joined by perspiration stains at the armpits. The elbow areas also show wear with laundered red board paint remnants on the left sleeve. There's more sweat staining around the collar and the top four eyelets are stretched. The game's most feared goal scorer of the 1960's, Bobby Hull has autographed the interior (the reverse of the Hawks logo) and added "16". This tempting and tantalizing vintage Hull Black Hawks jersey will be a treasured highlight in a game worn jersey collection. A letter of authenticity will be included with this amazing piece.
