The Marcel Dionne's Auction - October 2004
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/19/2004
In his 4th and final season in a Detroit Red Wings uniform, Marcel Dionne proved to the hockey world that he was superstar material. The brilliant scorer and playmaker finished 5th in goals with 47 and his 121 points were bettered only by Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito. While captaining his team, Dionne set an NHL record with 10 shorthanded goals. With just 14 penalty minutes, Dionne was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for his sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with his high level of play. This is the marvellous wooden plaque Dionne received for his standout season. It features a silver miniature of the trophy in the middle with black pucks and silver sticks to each side. The NHL logo is near the top while a metal plate at the bottom reads "Lady Byng Trophy Winner - Marcel Dionne - 1974-75 - Detroit Red Wings". The right handle of the trophy has broken off and there's a barely noticeable crack near that area that runs from top to bottom. His first major award in the NHL, Marcel has signed the back in black marker, adding "HOF 92". He will also sign a LOA that will accompany this fantastic piece.
