Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025

Ken Dryden’s remarkable NHL career began with one of the most dominant rookie seasons in
hockey history. After being called up late in the 1970-71 season, Dryden led the Canadiens to a
Stanley Cup championship, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP before even
playing a full regular season. He followed up with a Calder Trophy-winning rookie campaign in
1971-72, setting the stage for a Hall of Fame career that included six Stanley Cups and five
Vezina Trophies.
Presented here is an outstanding example of Dryden’s coveted 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie
card (#45), graded MINT 9 by PSA. Out of the 1,713 copies submitted to PSA over the years,
this pop-62 example is only bettered by 13 others on the PSA population report. The card
features a striking image of Dryden in his classic red Canadiens uniform.
The card is housed in a PSA holder that remains in excellent condition, with only very light
scratches observed upon close inspection. A true centerpiece for any high-end hockey card
collection.
