Elmer Lach was one of the most durable and productive forwards of his era, carving out a
legendary career with the Montreal Canadiens over 14 seasons. A gifted playmaker and fierce
competitor, Lach centered the Canadiens’ famed “Punch Line” alongside Maurice “Rocket”
Richard and Toe Blake, forming one of the most dominant offensive trios in NHL history. Lach
led the league in scoring twice, winning the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player in
1945 after posting 26 goals and 54 assists for 80 points in just 50 games—a remarkable total for
the era. Lach’s career was defined by his resilience and clutch play. Despite suffering multiple
injuries, including a fractured skull and a broken jaw, he maintained his elite production on the
ice. He helped lead the Canadiens to three Stanley Cup championships (1944, 1946, and 1953)
and retired as the NHL’s all-time leading scorer with 623 career points. Lach was inducted into
the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, cementing his place among the game’s greats. His legacy
lives on as a cornerstone of the Canadiens’ storied history.
This Elmer Lach rookie card, graded PSA 6, holds a special place in hockey card history as the
very first card in the iconic 1951-52 Parkhurst set. The PSA holder that the card is preserved in
remains in good condition, with just a small handful of fine scratches and light scuffs over both sides
worth pointing out for accuracy.
