Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/29/2025
In stunning, like-new condition, these cloth crests, or team shields as they were referred to, literally look like they were produced yesterday, yet were first available to consumers of Bee Hive Corn Syrup over 90 years ago! The “stout cloth” premiums were meant to be sewn on jackets or sweaters and measure 3-3/4” by 4-1/2”. They were offered in the 1930s and into the ‘40s, and we have a near complete set of 8/9, with just the Brooklyn Americans missing, along with an extra NY Americans shield for a grand total of 9. With bright vivid colors and just a touch of fraying to a few edges, the complete set includes the defunct Montreal Maroons and the aforementioned New York Americans, along with the familiar teams which would come to be known as the “Original Six”. Also present is two original St Lawrence Starch envelopes that would have housed shields.
