Producing most of the sticks used by professionals beginning in the 19th century and continuing on throughout the early portion of the Original Six era, McNiece & Orchard of Montreal later evolved into Jimmy McNiece, with his sticks used by the Montreal Canadiens for a numbers of years including players like Maurice Richard. These "Extra Special" models were made by longtime master maker Ernie Everden. We offer a pair of sticks from the 1930s/40s, with a rare "Super Special" goal stick made by Evernden for Jimmy McNiece's company, along with a matching period Hespeler "Extra Special" one-piece stick. The goal stick shows earlier style 3-piece construction with rounded paddle top edges, with the goal stick actually a players stick with attachments for the paddle and blade added above and below the shaft. It is stamped with "Jimmy McNiece Super Special Hand Made in Montreal, Canada" on one side of the paddle (this is the same labeling McNiece & Orchard used decades earlier), and "Pattern Made by Ernie Evernden Extra Special" on the other. The stick shows heavy use with a few cracks to the blade, but remains solid. The Hespeler is a full-size one-piece stick with silver graphics (these were used on the company's "Silver Streak", "Green Flash" and "Blue Flash" models), with "Extra Special Hand Made". The stick shows use with tape residue, with a chip at the toe and small crack at the end of the blade. There are signatures on the top edge of the shaft, but these are considerably worn and illegible. Also included, there is a 1954-55 Canadiens NHL schedule from Laura Secord, with the small fold-over affair listing both home and away games within the interior. Just light wear is visible.
