The 22nd and final victory for the Soviet Union before the dissolution of the unified nation and the emergence of the newly independent Russian state, the 1990 IIHF World Championships were held in Switzerland, with the Soviets winning all 3 of their games in the final round. Sweden would take home the silver medal, and Czechoslovakia the bronze. We present a 1990 IIHF World Championship gold medal. Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter with the original blue and yellow ribbon attached and "1990" to the bail, "World Championships" appears in raised letters circling the perimeter on the obverse along with two generic players. Featuring a painted globe IIHF logo with crossed hockey sticks on the reverse, it is encompassed by "International Ice Hockey Federation" in matching style raised letters. The medal displays beautifully and remains in near mint condition.
