Outscoring the competition 50 to 15 while winning all nine games, the Soviet Union climbed back to the top of international hockey, winning the gold medal at the 1986 IIHF World Championships after winning bronze the previous year. Sweden earned the silver and Canada the bronze, with Russian superstar Sergei Makarov leading the tournament in scoring. We present a 1986 IIHF World Championship gold medal. Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter with the original blue and yellow ribbon attached and "1986" to the bail, "World Championships" appears in raised letters circling the perimeter on the obverse along with two generic players. Featuring a painted globe IIHF logo with crossed hockey sticks on the reverse, it is encompassed by "International Ice Hockey Federation" in matching style raised letters. The medal displays beautifully and remains in near mint condition, with just a single tiny ding visible.
