Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
In operation between 1979 to 1993 and playing in the American Hockey League from 1982-83 onward, the Baltimore Skipjacks franchise would serve as the main AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals from 1988-89 to 1992-93. With the franchise's alumni list seeing over 140 names that would go on to play in the NHL, the franchise would make the Calder Cup Playoffs in three (3) of their five (5) seasons under the watchful eye of Washington. Offered here, we present this lot consisting of AHL Skipjacks jerseys worn by Bill Houlder in 1989-90 and Ken Lovsin in 1990-91. Both made by CCM and in the style of their parent NHL club, each jersey retains their original Maska Air-Knit label affixed to the inner collar, with both having had size "54" designations penned to them in ballpoint pen ink that is faded but still legible. Both decorated over their fronts with Skipjacks team crests that feature embroidered details throughout their entireties, each has also had CCM logos embroidered into their reverse hems and are accented over the sleeves and upper fronts with alternating blue/white or blue/red single layer tackle twill stars that have been individually sewn on. Of note, both jerseys retain their original fight straps on the interiors and the jersey of Houlder has had a velcro swatch added to it over the left breast for the purpose of affixing an alternate captain's "A" of captain's "C". Accented over the sleeves and verso with each player's respective number in dual layer blue-over-red or white-over-blue tackle twill numerals, their names are spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplates seen at the top of each shirt. Of note, the Houlder jersey appears to show evidence of a former nameplate underneath the one that is currently applied. Both showing excellent game-wear, each shows battle scars via stick marks, board burns, small unrepaired holes/cuts, coloured board paint transfers, pilling on the interior and team repairs as well as a few fabric snags here and there plus some light sweat and general staining from use.
