Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Developing in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League with the famous Soo Greyhounds before his professional career, Doug Patey would be drafted by both the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals (73rd overall) and World Hockey Association's Phoenix Roadrunners (66th overall) in 1976 and would go on to play a total of forty-five (45) games in the NHL as well as 153 games in the AHL over the course of his professional career. Offered here from his developmental days as a member of the Greyhounds, we present this collection of Patey's memorabilia from his time with Finnish club Savonlinnan Pallokerho (SaPKo) during the 1980-81 season that includes a game-worn jersey as well as a team photo and various posters.
Starting with the jersey, a mostly lightweight mesh construction offering that also sports knit inserts, the garment is made by Kisapuku and has both a brand tag, displaying a size "50-52" designation, as well as a washing instructions label is sewn into the collar while a Kisapuku logo is screened on over the left breast and shows wear from age. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a SaPKo crest that features printed details, "Sankar" sponsorship logos appears screened on over both shoulders/sleeves as well as the front and reverse hem. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Patey's number "8" in either single or dual layer tackle twill numerals, "Patey" is screened on in single layer blue letters across the affixed nameplate at the top of the reverse. Void of a fight strap, the jersey shows game-wear via stick marks, coloured board paint transfers, board burns, unrepaired small holes, sweat staining/spot staining and light pilling on the interior.
Also including a 1980-81 team photo poster that measures 17 1/4" x 9" and remains in good shape despite a tear near the top right corner, the rest of the lot includes four (4) game calendar/promotional posters that measure between 15 3/4" x 23 1/2" and 20" x 27" and remain in overall good condition with light wear via edge and corner wear including dings plus small tears while the smallest one also has residue on its reverse from being hung up which has bled through to the front.
