Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A product of Cape Breton in the Q and sitting 2nd all-time in career wins by a goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury has played twenty (20) seasons in the National Hockey League and has won a trio of Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 2009, 2016 and 2017 as well as both the Vezina Trophy and Jennings Trophy in 2021 with the Vegas Golden Knights. Offered here, we present this mask made for the future Hall of Fame inductee that hails from the 2015-16 season. Attractively designed in Pittsburgh's colours of white, silver, vegas gold and black with all padding and strapping intact on both the interior and exterior, the paint job on the exterior, done by Stéphane Bergeron of Griff Airbrush on a Michel Lefevre shell that is branded as a CCM offering, features a monster/ghost appearing to break through a layer over the top of the head and sides while "Pittsburgh" is spelt out in gothic style black script letter around the jaw and chin. Sporting a silver coloured cats eye cage over the front of the mask and a clear plastic throat protector around the bottom that has been attached with skate laces, the design of the mask extends onto the backplate as well. Still featuring its original sweatband on the interior and housed in a CCM mask bag that has had "M. A. Fleury" embroidered into the top of it, stickers affixed to the interior of the shell include those reading "Meets NHL Standards" and "Medium Fit #1" inside the chin, "Fait Au Canada/Made in Canada" over the right side of the jaw and "Pour M.A Fleury 22/6/15 - Design Par:/By Lefevre" over the left side of the jaw, additional brand stickers have been placed behind the ears at the left and right edges as well. Remaining in beautiful condition with light wear from handling, a couple of small nicks/chips are observed as well but nothing that detracts from the beauty of the piece.
