Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A product of the NCAA's Miami University RedHawks hockey program, Jeff Zatkoff would be drafted 74th overall by the Los Angeles Kings at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and go on to play a total of forty-eight (48) games in the National Hockey League with the likes of the Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins. Representing the United States of America at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championships and winning a Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2016, offered here is this collection of equipment, including pads, blocker and glove, donned by Zatkoff during the 2015-16 season in which Pittsburgh won their fourth (4th) Stanley Cup in franchise history. A matching set of Vaughn V5/Vision pro model equipment in the Penguins' white, black and sport gold colourway, "Zatkoff" has been embroidered into both of the gloves while "Custom Handcrafted for Zatkoff" has been stitched into the sides of both pads. Displaying excellent game-use through countless puck marks throughout each piece, all four (4) pieces also show sweat staining to their white cloth elements while spots of red post paint transfers are found over both gloves in areas as well. With heavy rubbing present on the palm of the blocker and fraying around the edges of the glove, things that are commonly found on goalie equipment, it is also worth noting that there is a scratch over the face of the right pad at the bottom of the knee area and that both of the laced in knee guards show tears as well. With the left pad having been signed by Zatkoff with a black marker ink signature that displays well despite some lightness in areas, he has penned an inscription over the knee area of the right pad that is personalized to our consignor and reads "To Thomas - Thanks For The Mask" in matching black marker ink. Having all been photo-matched with Getty Image #635324234 (February 15th, 2016 vs Florida) to various puck marks over all of the included gear, the glove is also photo-matched to the white paint mark over the backside in the black leather area. Additionally, also included with the lot is a CCM 500 pro stock goalie stick in a black and white colourway that sports "Zatkoff" factory graphics over the shaft. Showing light-to-moderate use throughout via puck marks, Zatkoff has signed over the paddle on the backhand side with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue. Of note, we could not find any photos of him using sticks like this and the tape job differs from what is seen on his sticks in images. Additional photos are available for this lot.
