Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Widely regarded as the best hockey player to ever live, Gordie Howe played an incredible 32 years of professional hockey in both the NHL and WHA, winning multiple championships in each league. A 21x All-Star, 6x Art Ross Trophy winner and 6x Hart Memorial Trophy winner as well as a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 1972, offered here is this pairing of cards that have both been signed by Howe and feature pieces of memorabilia worn by him during his career. Hailing from the 2001-02 Be A Player and 2003-04 Upper Deck Bee Hive releases, the earlier of the two (2) cards, part of the "500 Goal Scorers" subset and showing Howe with the Red Wings in the late-1960s, a red swatch of durene fabric has been embedded into the front of the card alongside the image while the front has also been signed by Howe with a blue marker ink signature that displays without issue and includes his famed "Mr. Hockey" moniker in matching ink and condition. For the 2003-04 Upper Deck Bee Hive card, showing a black-and-white image of Howe over the front and a similar red durene fabric swatch embedded into the front alongside the vintage photo, the card has also been signed in the same manner as the one profiled above, via a blue marker ink signature that displays without issue and includes the "Mr. Hockey" inscription. Additionally, the serial number of "02/10" has been penned to the upper right hand corner in blue marker ink as well. Both remaining in excellent condition and found in their original raw ungraded state, light edge and corner wear is seen over both cards that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
