Finishing the 1956-57 OHA Senior "A" regular season with a record of 34-16-2 in 52 games played, the Whitby Dunlops would defeat the North Bay Trappers four (4) games to three (3) in the Eastern Canada playoffs, which were drastically shortened due to a lack of amateur clubs from Quebec and the Maritime provinces declaring none of their teams fit for that level of competition. Pitted against the Spokane Flyers in the Allan Cup Finals and sweeping them in four (4) straight games, the victory granted the Dunlops the right to represent Canada at the 1958 Ice Hockey World Championships in Oslo, Norway, in which they won Canada's 17th World Championship gold medal. Offered here, we present this stick team-signed by members of the 1956-57 Whitby Dunlops. An unbranded "Slap-Shot" model offering (stamp over lower shaft on one side) that has never been tapped over the handle/knob or blade, a now faded black marker ink notation reading "1956-57 Allan Cup Champions" has been penned over the blade while a pair of blue stripes are found around the lower portion of the shaft. Displaying with numerous marks and abrasions plus other wear from handling and age, it is worth noting that a hole has been drilled in the lower shaft, likely from mounting for display purposes, while a nail has been hammered in just above the top blue stripe. Signed by approximately twenty-two (22) members of that years Dunlops squad, those that have signed include; Bob Attersley, Charlie Burns, Gordy Myles, John Henderson, Ted O'Connor, Jack Armstrong, Tom O'Connor, Don McBeth, Frank Bonello, Charles "Bus" Gagnon, Harry Sinden, Alf Treen, Fred Etcher, Doug Williams, Edward Redmond, Jack Donlevy, Sid Smith, Jack McKenzie and others that cannot be made out. All signed in black marker, most of the signatures are easily able to be read while showing varying degrees of fading.
