Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024

Desirable in their own right, with an interesting backstory that will increase interest, we have a circa late-1940s blocker and glove along with a pair of circa-1930s player gloves that all sport "Tool Shop" labels, and according to our consignor, these originated from an individual that worked at the Detroit Olympia who was apparently given these by Red Wings trainer Lefty Wilson, with the gloves relating to the team. The "Tool Shop" labels were used by the Red Wings on equipment usually from the 1940s, before Lippman's became the company of choice during the era. Believed to be Stall & Dean models, the blocker and glove are both indicative to the style during the period, when catching gloves were just coming into fashion. They remain complete and original including the tie string to the glove, with just light use shown on the pair. The player gloves show heavy wear/use, with considerable wear and rubbing to the leather, with holes to the palms and loose threading in areas. Each glove also shows repairs. This is an interesting group with a thought-provoking background.
