Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019, Vaclav Nedomansky, a star in his native Czechoslovakia at both the club team and international levels was the first Czechoslovak hockey player to defect to North America to play, doing so in 1974 when he joined the Toronto Toros of the WHA. Also suiting up for the Birmingham Bulls after the Toros moved south, Nedomansky would also play in the NHL, wearing the uniforms of the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers. A prolific goal scorer who was able to average near, or just over a point-a-game in five (5) of his nine (9) seasons played in North America, offered here is this collection of awards and dishes from Nedomansky's personal collection that totals four (4). Including a pair of "Most Valuable Player of the Game Award" steins presented to Nedomansky during his years in the WHA as a member of the Toros/Bulls, the steins are of the same design and stand just shy of 9" tall at their tallest points. Made of pewter, stamped hallmarks and a "Colonial Pewter by Boardman" appear over the reverse. Remaining in good condition with no breaks, the surfaces show some scratches and scuffs plus light pitting in areas. Also accompanied by their matching wooden bases, each with a circular notch to the stein to sit in and measuring 7 1/2" x 7 1/2", a plague reading "Most Valuable Player of the Game" has been added over the front of both, which also displays a Sport O'Keefe logo as well. Remaining in good condition but showing varying degrees of wear, the felt feet over the bottom of both have been lost to time while labels from East York Trophies have been added over the bottom as well. Additionally, also included is a pair of souvenir plates from the dinner held the night before the 1980 NHL All-Star Game in Detroit. Each measuring roughly 10 ½” in diameter, a full colour inset center made of ceramic that features every team logo along with an image of Joe Louis Arena and the words “National Hockey League All Star Dinner” is embedded into the middle of the dish. The edge of the plates features scroll work, with the plates reading “Detroit Feb 4th-1980” once inserted on the lower edges of the plates are now missing. The reverse of the plates displays “Canton, Ohio” and a number of hallmarks. Still firmly in place and not lose at all, one plate remains in excellent condition and showcases just light scratching and surface wear/pitting with all the artwork in the center still bold and strongly coloured as well while the center of the other plate has some cracks in it. All hailing from Vaclav Nedomansky's personal collection, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the collection.
