Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Won by a total of twenty (20) different franchises, including teams that have relocated to another city or changed their name, since the first one was played in 1967 to crown an overall champion between the winners of the National Football League and American Football League, the Super Bowl has become arguably the most famous event in all of sports, with the event contributing to a superhero like lore for the winners and over a billion dollars in economic impact. Offered here, we present this collection of programs from the first fifteen Super Bowls' dating from 1967 (for the 1966 season) and 1981 (for the 1980 season). All featuring artistic covers, some of the notable examples included are the books for Super Bowl I and II, a pair of contests won by the powerhouse Green Bay Packers that were led by Vince Lombardi, the man of which the Lombardi Trophy that is presented to each Super Bowl winning team is named after, as well as Super Bowl III, known for commemorating the game in which the AFL grew up and Joe Namath grew into a legend, personally guaranteeing a New York Jets victory to give the AFL their first Super Bowl crown. Also including the rarer stadium version of Super Bowl IV that lists just the two (2) competing teams and not all four (4) league finalists, as well as the short-printed Super Bowl V program. All complete and void of any missing pages upon quick check to the best of our abilities, the group remains in overall good to excellent condition throughout with typical handling wear observed throughout the entirety of the run with light wear to the pages, spines, edges and corners plus some toning and creasing the most obvious things to point out. Avoiding major flaws, it is also worth noting that a pair of ticket stubs to the 1977 Super Bowl that remain in excellent condition accompany the program for that game while the cover of the program for Super Bowl IV autographed by Len Dawson, the game's MVP, plus Football Hall of Fame inductees Bobby Bell and Jan Stenerud. All three (3) signatures have been penned in black marker ink and display without issue while being accompanied by a JSA COA.
