A product of the NCAA's University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, John Harrington would find his place on the famed 1980 United States Olympic Team that took down the mighty Soviet Union in what is now known as the "Miracle on Ice", assisting on Mike Eruzione's go-ahead game-winning goal with ten (10) minutes to go in the third (3rd) period. Again representing Team USA at the World Championships from 1981 to 1983, Harrington would once again make the Olympic Team for the 1984 Games in Sarajevo, one (1) of only two (2) players from the 1980 squad to be featured on the roster, the other being Phil Verchota. Serving as one (1) of Team USA's assistant captain's, offered here is this Team USA jersey worn by Harrington during a portion of the squad's pre-tournament schedule leading up to the games. A heavyweight mesh construction offering made by Pedersons, a brand label displaying a size "XL" designation is affixed to the inner collar while "Pedersons" is embroidered into the rear hem as well. First winning the Olympic contract to manufacture the jerseys over CCM, the National Team would wear Cooper made jerseys in the later portion of their pre-tournament schedule and at the Olympics as the jerseys made by Pedersons had sleeves that were not long enough, much to the dismay of the players. The jerseys were signed and returned to Pedersons where they sat in a box until being unearthed by the company in the early-2000s. Decorated with "USA" going diagonally down the front in dual layer red-over-blue tackle twill letters, white tackle twill stars have been added over both shoulders and the distinguished alternate captain's "A" has been added over the left breast. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Harrington's number "23" in dual layer tackle twill letters, "Harrington" is spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching mesh nameplate at the top of the reverse. Signed by Harrington over the lower reverse with a large black marker ink signature that displays without issue, the jersey displays excellent game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, board burns are also present over both sleeves and there is a small blue coloured stain to the left of the "2" on the reverse. Additionally, there are spot stains throughout the body and sleeves that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
