Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

Playing his five (5) years of junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Trois-Rivieres Ducs and Trois-Rivieres Draveurs, Alain Daigle would be drafted 34th overall by the Chicago Black Hawks in the 1974 NHL Amatuer Draft as well as 38th overall in the WHA Amatuer Draft by the Quebec Nordiques. Choosing to go the route of the National Hockey League, Daigle would go on to play a total of 389 games in the NHL, all with Chicago, while also suiting up at times in the American Hockey League as well as in France and Austria. Offered here, we present this Black Hawks jersey first worn by Daigle during the 1977-78 season which was then recycled down to the WHL for use by the Portland Winter Hawks. A durene knit offering made by Wilson, a partially detached brand label that displays a size "44" designation is affixed to the inner collar along with a mostly unstitched Gunzo's supplier label as well. Decorated over the front of the jersey with its original Indian Head team crest that features beautifully done chain-stitched details, matching "C" crossed tomahawk alternate logo patches that are original to the jersey are found atop of both shoulders. Additionally, an alternate captain's "A" has been added over the left breast, done so when the jersey was recycled down to Portland. Of note, research shows that when these jerseys were sent down to the junior ranks, this one could have been worn by one (1) or more players out of Elmer Ray, Mike Spencer, and Bart Yachimec. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Daigle's number "17" in dual layer white-over-black tackle twill numerals and having had a garter style fight strap added to the interior, "Daigle" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across what appears to be the original nameplate based on the sizing and spacing, likely found and reattached over the original stitch holes as there is no easily seen evidence of a former nameplate seen on the interior. Exhibiting heavy game-wear, with a good portion likely occurring after its life in the NHL, stick marks are present over the front, reverse and sleeves with the same areas also showing numerous unrepaired holes, board burns, team repairs, fabric runs and pilling/rubbing while there is also heavily pilling on the interior as well and fading to the tomahawk patches on the shoulders.
