This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Always high up on the list of collectors looking for something to enhance their vintage treasure trove, the desirable hockey coins released by the Shirriff Family Foods Product Company are the subject of this lot, with the releases from 1961-62 and 1962-63, the second (2nd) and third (3rd) assemblies to be released by the company, profiled here in the form of twenty-five (25) coins, all of which are still contained within their original packaging. Starting with the earlier released coins, a group of ten (10) hailing from the 1961-62 season that saw the Toronto Maple Leafs win their first of three (3) straight Stanley Cup championships, each coin is contained within a small cellophane bag. Including the examples of 6-McKenney, 44-Horton, 45-Brewer, 52-Olmstead, 67-Fonteyne, 76-Ullman, 97-Hadfield, 99-Schinkel 100-Wilson and 103-Marshall, it is worth mentioning that the packaging for the Horton coin is opened/torn over the top left side, there is a small tear/stain to the left edge of the packaging for the Brewer coin and finally, there is a trio of small tears to the packaging of the Ullman coin. For the 1962-63 coins, this time made of metal instead of plastic but contained in the same single coin cellophane bags, included are the examples of 2-Stanley, 5-Brewer, 9-Kelly, 13-Harris, 16-Keon, 30-Tremblay, 37-Moore, 42-Berenson, 43-Plante AS, 47-Hull AS, 50-Pilote AS, 52-Keon AS (x2) and 53-Mahovlich AS (x2), the coin of Red Kelly shows a tear to its packaging, as do those of 13-Harris, 30-Tremblay, 43-Plante AS, 47-Hull AS, 50-Pilote AS and one of the Keon AS examples as well, with all the coins still contained on the inside and still in overall gorgeous condition.
