Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
The thought/dream of owning a complete set of, in some cases, ultra-elusive 1968-69 Shirriff coins, is one that excites numerous hobbyists, many of whom however have been frightened-off by the length of time required to locate each and every one of the 176 plastic discs. The fourth and final hockey coins set released by Shirriff, offered here is this complete set of the 1968-69 hockey coins with yes, all three Oakland Seals scarcities (Vadnais, Jarrett and Young), along with Rangers Balon, Hadfield, Jeffrey and Stewart present, as well as the other (close to three dozen) SPs and superstars Orr, Howe and Hull. For the key coins, the breakdown and condition of them, including those listed above already includes; Smith (small scratches and a small crack to the clear plastic that covers the image), Orr (small scratches and a small crack to the clear plastic that covers the image), Doak (scratches and a small crack to the clear plastic that covers the image plus a crack to the plastic holder - image comes out of holder), Williams (small scratches and a small crack to the clear plastic that covers the image), Sather (small scratches and a small crack to the clear plastic that covers the image), Willams #2 (small scratches and a small crack/heavy scratch to the clear plastic that covers the image), D. Hull (scratched plastic face), Dryden (scratched plastic face and small edge chip at nine o'clock), Marotte (scratched plastic face), Nesterenko (scratched plastic face and scuffed front edge at the bottom), Pappin (scratches to plastic face), Howe (small scratches to plastic face), Baun (moderate-to-heavy scratches to plastic face and toned), Conacher (moderate scratches to plastic face and small crack plus edge chip), Watson (heavily scratched, cracks to the plastic face, dirty reverse and small edge chips), Libett (numerous small scratches and a small edge chip), Sabourin (numerous scratches to the plastic face), Pilote (numerous scuffs, scratches and small crack to the plastic face plus edge chips), Byers (scratched and cracked face plus dirty reverse and edge), McKenney (small crack at top edge plus scratches), Larose (numerous scratches and scuffs plus very tiny crack at top edge and a couple small edge chips), MacDonald (scratches and scuffs plus edge scratches and scuff), Provost (light scratches to plastic face and small edge scratches, chips and scuffs), Redmond (small scratches and dried glue on the reverse), Hadfield (numerous scratches and scuffs plus diry edges and reverse), Swarbrick (small scratches and scuffs plus small edge chip on front), Swarbrick #2 (small scratches and scuffs), Stanley (small scratches and scuffs and possible mold residue on the reverse), Laforge (scratches and scuffs plus rough edge) and Hannigan (scratches and scuffs plus edge chip). For the rest of the set, overall in good condition, many show the same flaws as what is listed in the keys above. We also examined the sometimes-counterfeited Seals and Rangers biggies and you need not worry about fakes. The luscious team color-coded backs, especially those of the six expansion teams, sure take guys of a certain age on a trip back to their childhood and make us think of the “luscious” that appeared on the backs of coins in the early-‘60s. A delectable treat will fulfill you when these blasts form the past are delivered. Good luck with this marvelous opportunity.
