Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Reduced in size from the previous offerings, the 1962-63 Shirriff hockey coin release totals 60 and feature’s players from the Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs and NHL champion Montreal Canadiens, along with All-Stars and trophy winners. A set that is tough to assemble a high-grade assembly of, though seemingly mostly having been done so here, with this contingent featuring the many of the best to play in the NHL at the time and just a couple of exceptions throughout. Featuring many coins able to be categorized in excellent condition or better and displaying crisp images over their fronts, the notable stars include 3-Mahovlich, 4-Horton 25-Plante (pair of small scratches over the face), 41-Richard (mispainted reverse bottom edge - small amount of dirt at edge of image), 54-Howe (AS - small scratches), 55-Keon (AW), 57-Hull (AW) and 58-Plante (AW - edge chipping all the way around). Of the remaining coins, most show just light-to-moderate wear/chipping to the paint around their rims while those with heavier wear include the likes of 7-Nevin, 11-Olmstead, 27-Bonin, 38-Hicke and 46-Mikita while it is also worth noting that some also show tape residue on their reverses as well including Leafs stars Stanley, Horton and Kelly plus Toe Blake.
