Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
A season that witnessed the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson trophies all wrapped up along with 196 points netted in just 80 games, we have a stick used by iconic superstar Wayne Gretzky during the 1982-83 NHL campaign. A preferred Titan TPM 2020 model in solid white with red identifiers, “W. Gretzky” has been boldly stamped over the upper shaft with Wayne's number "99" penned above in heavily faded marker ink. Having had "W.G" handwritten in pencil over the underside of the heel, the stick retains Gretzky's original tape job of white-now-yellowing-over-black in a beehive pattern over the handle/knob while a date stamp reading "SEP 3, 1982" found on the underside of the lower shaft. Having had the original black tape removed from the blade to facilitate Gretzky's large flowing black marker ink signature that displays without issue to speak of over the forehand side, "The Great One" has also added an annotation reading "Best Regards" above it in matching ink that shows in the same condition. Used in just his fourth NHL season, this Gretzky gamer is ready for even the most advanced stick collection and is accompanied by a Shawn Chaulk LOA
