Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
A product of the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings, Dave Semenko would be drafted by both the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL and the Houston Aeros of the WHA in each leagues respective draft and would choose the route of the National Hockey League, suiting up for the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs in his career. Serving the noble role as Wayne Gretzky's on-ice bodyguard and responsible for creating so much room for "The Great One" to work his magic, Semenko would win a pair of Stanley Cup's with Edmonton in 1984 and 1985. Offered here, from Edmonton's Cup winning season of 1984-85, we present this stick used by Semenko. A Titan made TMP2020 model offering with "D. Semekno" stamped over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original black tape job wrapped around the shaved down handle/knob. Having had its blade tape removed to facilitate Dave's bold and large sized blue ink signature, the noted enforcer has added an annotation reading "Best of Luck" to the autograph in matching blue ink. With everything displaying excellently, it is worth noting that the "L" of "Luck" shows a bit of smudging. Featuring a foil accent sticker over the bottom of the shaft and a date stamp reading "MAR 15 1985" on the underside of the lower shaft, the stick shows light game-wear via dark marks, abrasions and paint scuffs throughout the shaft, lower shaft, heel and blade.
