Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Widely considered as one of the top three players throughout the history of the fabled Montreal Canadiens along with Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur enjoyed tremendous success during his Habs tenure, capturing five Stanley Cup championships, three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorials and the Conn Smythe. Entering the National Hockey League during the 1971-72 season after leading the Quebec Remparts to a Memorial Cup championship the year before, offered here is this copy of Guy's coveted 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie card that has been signed by the 1988 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee. Encapsulated for both preservation and display by PSA, the card has been signed by Lafleur over the front with a bold blue marker ink signature that displays beautifully and has had the company's high-grade mark of MINT 9 bestowed upon it, which is proudly displayed over the label at the top of the holder. For the card itself, displaying off center from bottom-to-top and right-to-left, toning is observed as well as some corner and edge wear plus a stain near the top edge on the front. Foreshadowing the career that “The Flower” would have, the reverse of the card states that “Guy will be a superstar”, a statement that came true as Lafleur would become one of the greatest in Canadiens history over the course of his career. Nice prediction, O-Pee-Chee. With the PSA holder found to be in excellent condition overall, don't miss out on this one!
