Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

Originally drafted 14th overall by the Washington Capitals at the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, Sergei Gonchar would play a total of 1301 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Washington, Boston, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Dallas and Montreal, winning a Stanley Cup championship with the Penguins in 2009. Adding another pair of Cup championships while serving as a Penguins development coach in 2016 and 2017 and a two-time Olympic medalist with his native Russia (silver in 1998 and bronze in 2002), offered here is this stick used by Gonchar during the 2008-09 season in which he helped Pittsburgh to their 3rd Stanley Cup in franchise history. A Nike Bauer made One95 model twig with "GOnchar" factory graphics over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of white over the handle/knob and blade, with the latter being signed over the forehand side with a black marker ink signature that displays well. Sporting a quartet of dots penned to the bottom of the handle tape and an affixed factory production sticker over the underside of the shaft, the stick displays light-to-moderate game-use via marks and abrasions over the shaft, lower shaft and heel while the blade tape shows puck marks over both sides as well. Also showing a bit of wear to the underside of the blade, a dried gripping agent has been applied over the length of the shaft and is worthy of mention for accuracy.
