A member of the National Hockey League's "Original Six" and one of the most collected teams in hockey, the New York Rangers, also known simply as "The Blueshirts", have called the bright lights of New York City home since their founding in 1926 and have won a total of four (4) Stanley Cup's over that time with the most recent coming in 1994. With their famous blue jerseys staying virtually unchanged over the years since their inception except for a couple of occurrences, offered here is this Rangers pro-style jersey that dates from the late-1950s or early-1960s, specifically between 1959 and 1963. A heavy knit garment by famed Rangers equipment provider Gerry Cosby's, a brand label displaying their pre-Madison Square Garden address is affixed to the inner collar of the tie-up style sweater, alongside a size "40" swatch as well. Decorated over the front with "Rangers" going diagonally down the chest in dual layer red-over-white felt letters, an assistant captain's "A" in matching style appears over the left breast while the number "17", once again in matching style and the number worn by Dean Prentice in that era, is found over the reverse. Additionally, the lack of numbers on the sleeves plus the 825 8th Ave address (the corner of the 2nd iteration of Madison Square Garden) help date the jersey between 1959, when Cosby's opened at that location, and 1963, the last season the Rangers didn't have numbers on their sleeves. Remaining in overall good condition considering its age, some blue colour bleed is observed in the white areas of the sleeves, lower front and lower reverse while large sewn repairs are present over the front and in the left armpit. Additionally, there is some wear/separation to both the "G" and "E" on the front as well plus a couple of popped seams around the collar.
