Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Finishing in first place in the NHL with 100 points in 1951-52, the Detroit Red Wings lost only 14 games en route to a Stanley Cup championship. Gordie Howe led the league in scoring, while Marcel Pronovost was the top scoring defenseman for the Wings. This stick used by Pronovost has been team-signed by the 1951-52 Stanley Cup champion Red Wings (with the combination of signers, the stick can only be from 1951-52). A Northland Pro model with "Pronovost" stamped to the shaft and "18" handwritten (this is the only season Marcel wore the #18 jersey), there are stamps from team supplier Lippman's on each side of the shaft, with the original black tape over the blade and knob. 16 have signed one side of the shaft in blue ink, including Pronovost, as well as fellow HOFers Howe (pale), Lindsay, Kelly, Delvecchio and Terry Sawchuk, along with Prystai, Pavelich, Skov, Leswick, Glover, Stasiuk, Woit, Reise, Wilson and Larry Zeidel. Most of the signatures are a bit light but easily legible. The stick itself shows light to moderate use, with a few tears to the blade tape and some cracking at the heel area and just above. There is also a few marks to the shaft and a possible crack beneath the blade tape.
