Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Featuring a checklist that consisted of 264 total cards and a separate production from the Topps set found south of the border, the 1977 O-Pee-Chee baseball set is found heavily loaded with a number of players from the native Expos & Blue Jays, making their 1977 OPC team sets superior to the ones issued by their American cousin. Printed later than the Topps cards, giving OPC the opportunity to update the teams and airbrush the hats of the free agents and traded players offered here is this complete assembly of O-Pee-Chee's 1977 baseball release through a pair of uncut sheets. Each measuring roughly 28" x 43" in size, the gorgeous full colour images feature the key offerings of players such as Nolan Ryan, Reggie Jackson, Pete Rose, Dave Winfield, Johnny Bench, Thurman Munson, Robin Yount and George Brett, the aformentioned Ryan also appears over the front of "Record Breaker" card that commemorates him owning the record for the most seasons with 300 or more strikeouts. Also including the first cards of Canada's second (2nd) Major League team, the Toronto Blue Jays, the sheets remain in overall excellent condition after visual inspection, showing some creasing as well as very light toning, edge and corner wear that we can see. Of note, some very minor dirt marks and tiny edge dings appear over both sheets but nothing that actually affects the cards themselves.
